Green Team Phu Quoc - A cleanup at Regent Resort

The clean-up took place on November 7, 2021 at Regent Resort - part of a series of Green Action propaganda Project towards resorts in Phu Quoc to raise awareness of waste management and treatment.

The cleanup activity at Regent Resort this time attracts many young people as well as local citizens. We have participated in cleaning up all kinds of waste from domestic waste, F&B, tourism and fishing activities.

After a few hours, the beach and the surrounding area were restored to their original beauty and the members were aware of the responsibility to protect the marine environment as well as building a green lifestyle in their daily life.

A volunteer shared: “Today's activity was really fun and meaningful, we helped to clean the landscape and restore its beauty. Like myself, students like me are also more aware of environmental protection issues through the project.”

Phu Quoc has a backlog of 90,000 tons of garbage

Plastic waste pollution in the ocean is currently a major global problem, requiring the joint support and action of the international, national and local communities. Every day, Phu Quoc generates about 150 tons of domestic waste. On peak days with many tourists, the amount of waste generated can sometimes be up to 180 tons. However, because there is no garbage treatment plant in operation, the daily waste is only collected and brought to Ong Lang landfill, and from July 2020, the garbage is brought to Dong Cay Sao landfill (Cua Duong commune). After 20 months, the amount of garbage at Dong Cay Sao landfill has reached more than 90,000 tons, it is expected that soon it will also be overloaded like the previous Ong Lang landfill.

Through the campaign to clean up beaches and resorts; collect and sort wastes, we want to raise awareness for people, tourists and the community about the needs to preserve our nature and the harmful effects of waste on environment and human life.
